Technical Diver (Technical Nitrox, Decompression Procedures, and Helitrox)

Overview 

The SCTD Technical Diver course combines the NAUI Technical Nitrox Course, NAUI Decompression Diver Course, and NAUI Helitrox Course into a single class that trains divers to explore longer and deeper with less narcosis.  

Graduates of this course will have the knowledge and skills to plan and execute technical dives to 150ft utilizing hyperoxic helium based bottom mixtures and 100% Oxygen for decompression. This is a deep diving course and students must be prepared for the potential dangers associatedOutof Gas with decompression diving.

Tired of diving the same old reef? Curious about what treasures lie just a little deeper? Want to explore that 140ft deep wreck a little longer, without the mind-numbing narcosis? If you answered yes to any of those questions (and have met the prerequisites), then this class is most definitely for you.

Course Details

The Technical Diver Course focuses on portions of the dive that recreational divers rarely think about. Building upon the knowledge and skills gained during the Intro to Tech course, we’ll spend much of our time discussing proper dive planning and focus our dive skills on handling emergencies and proper execution of the ascent phase of the dive. Decompression diving, helium based mixes, and oxygen decompression require an awareness and buoyancy skills far above that of the typical recreational diver.

Academics

This is an intense course, both in the water and the classroom. We’ll spend a minimum of 20 hours discussing decompression dive planning, proper gas selection, benefits & dangers of high oxygen mixes, decompression physics & physiology, and contingency planning.

Open Water Dives

A minimum of 14 dives will be conducted. Students will be expected to demonstrate proficiency in buoyancy control and a high level of team awareness at all times. Specific skills include reel work, underwater navigation, simulated emergencies, equipment failures and associated valve shut-downs, gas sharing, lift bag/SMB & spool deployment, and proper ascent procedures.
