Trimix Diver

Overview

The NAUI Trimix Diver courses are designed to provide technical divers with the skills and knowledge necessary to minimize the risks of planning and executing technical dives utilizing helium based breathing mixes that require staged decompression. Trimix Diver Level I trains divers to 200 fsw. Trimix Level II trains divers to a maximum depth of 250 fsw. Terence Anderson

Is this class for me?

This is a tough question that requires an honest assessment of one’s dive skills and motivation for diving deeper.  Please contact us for further discussion.

The minimum prerequisites for entering this course are as follows:

  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Technical (Advanced) Nitrox, Decompression Techniques and Helitrox (or equivalent) certifications. The SCTD Technical Diver course is preferred.
  • Minimum of 100 logged, at least 20 of which having been technical decompression dives (see the Technical FAQ for more info on what’s considered a technical dive).

Additional considerations BEFORE enrolling in this course include:

  • Exceptional buoyancy control and trim
  • Experience using SMBs/Lift Bags
  • Very comfortable working (deploying, stowing, removing, etc.) with stage and decompression bottles
  • Team oriented attitude, but be completely self-reliant – in other words, you are not dependant on others.

Academics

The Trimix Diver Course continues to build on the theory and skills developed in in entry level technical courses. Much of the discussion will be a review of the material covered in the Technical Diver program with an emphasis on dive planning and gas management.

Open Water Dives

Trimix Diver Level I: A minimum of 6 dives are required with at least 2 dives deeper than 180 fsw. The maximum depth limit for this rating is 200 fsw. Skills will focus on buoyany & trim, stage/deco bottle handling, team awareness, task loading, and dive contingencies. It is highly recommended that graduates of this course gain additional experience before moving on to Level II

Trimix Diver Level II: A minimum of 2 additional dives are required. Both dives must be deeper than 200 fsw, but not exceed 250 fsw.

Due to the increased skill and motivational requirements of our Trimix Diver program, please contact us to schedule a check-out dive prior to enrolling.
